Used Vehicle Inspection

If a vehicle is returned with damage beyond that which can reasonably be expected (excessive ‘wear and tear’), the resale value will be affected detrimentally. Our used vehicle inspections give you an independent and undisputable calculation of each returned vehicle’s value, so you can claim the cost of repairs or the difference in market value from the lessee.

From registering damage to the car, to missing documents or spare keys, we follow the procedures and business rules that have been agreed with you beforehand.

Our clients include major automotive manufacturers, their affiliated financial services firms, fleet management companies, car rental companies, and major vehicle auction sites.

How Used Vehicle Inspections can Help You

When you engage with SGS to carry out your used vehicle inspections you will instantly benefit from:

  • Third-party independent inspection performed by trained professionals

  • Reduced non-core and administrative expenses with better recovery
  • An open, transparent platform providing management online statistics, accessible by you and your customers
  • Electronic data exchange and optimal integration into your workflow and processes

A Comprehensive Inspection and Reporting Process

Although our Used Vehicle Inspections can be tailored completely to your requirements, they typically involve three main stages.

Stage 1: the Inspection
Specially trained SGS inspectors register all technical information about the car including the make, model, series, fuel type, trim and accessories. They ascertain the presence of keys and documentation, the condition of the tires, etc. They then note and photograph any damage.

Stage 2: the Calculation
The data collected during the inspection is sent electronically to an SGS-proprietary application called VIMS (Vehicle Inspection Management System). Taking into consideration all the results of the inspection, VIMS provides a detailed cost analysis of every fault on the car.

Stage 3: the Reports
Two reports are typically issued:

The Condition report which is an independent report containing the entire car’s data as collected and registered during the inspection. Complete with the cost calculation of the damages.

The Appraisal report is a derivative of the Condition Report. All damages required to be listed by the client are displayed. This report is usually supplied to the car dealers and does not contain individual cost calculations only the overall cost is displayed (if required).

There are many ways to view completed reports;

  • URL to be sent by e-mail
  • Online access on SGS server
  • Electronic transfer to an Application Using XML or other data transfer methods as required.
